The Huffington Post publishes my critique of Gingrich

Are the Palestinians an invented people?

Newt Gingrich, the leading U.S. Republican presidential candidate, has drawn fire for his claim that the Palestinians are an "invented" people and "terrorists." His statement sparked fierce condemnation from the Arab League and the Palestinian Authority. Democratic Senator Carl Levin of Michigan criticized Gingrich's comments as a cynical attempt to curry support with Jewish voters that was unhelpful to the peace process. Continue Reading...

From Coexistence recommended by Choice Reviews

Choice: Current Reviews for Academic Libraries, which is the premier source for reviews of academic books, electronic media, and Internet resources of interest to those in higher education in the US has published a review of my book From Coexistence. The review was published in April 2010, but I only just came across it. Continue Reading...

What is in a vote? Vanuatu, UNESCO, and Palestine

Vanuatu’s decision to vote with the minority against Palestine’s successful bid to join the United Nations Education, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) raises a number of fundamental questions about the island’s foreign policy. Most important of all it raises the question as to how Vanuatu will vote when Palestine applies to join other international organizations, and when its application to become a member of the UN is considered by the sixty-sixth session of the UN General Assembly.

The question is important for Vanuatu, because unlike most of the states that voted against Palestine’s application to join UNESCO, Vanuatu has already recognized Palestine. Continue Reading...
